OSHA Hazmat Emergency Responder per 29 CFR 1910.120(q) & 1926.65(q)

Course Overview

Who Should take this course?

This online Hazmat Incident Commander Level V Responder Refresher Online (4 Hour) training course is intended for those who are trained to the Hazardous Materials Incident Commander level per 29 CFR 1910.120(q)(6)(v) of the OSHA HAZWOPER Standard.

Hazmat Incident Commanders are trained to respond to hazardous materials emergencies for the purpose of managing the incident beyond that of the First Responder at the Operations Level.

Hazmat Incident Commander Refresher (4 Hour) Option

Many people falsely assume that Hazardous Materials Incident Commander refresher training needs to be a minimum of eight hours in length annually.

This is because the traditional OSHA 8 Hour Refresher Course is required each year for those trained to the 40 Hour HAZWOPER and 24 Hour HAZWOPER levels per section (e) of the OSHA HAZWOPER Regulation.

However, the refresher training requirement for the Hazardous Materials Incident Commander is found in section (q), not section (e), of the HAZWOPER Standard.

Excerpt from 29 CFR 1910.120(q)(8)(i):

Those employees who are trained in accordance with paragraph (q)(6) of this section shall receive annual refresher training of sufficient content and duration to maintain their competencies…

By offering shorter 4-hour versions, employers have the ability to have their employees take a 4-hour version twice a year for a total of 8 hours of annual refresher training if that is the goal.

This benefits the employee since it shortens the time frame between refresher training sessions to 6 months rather than 12 months.

Many employers go as far as conducting a 4-hour refresher session every three months to keep their Hazmat Incident Commanders at a high level of readiness.

Hazmat Incident Commander Refresher (8 Hour) Option

For those who prefer 8 hours of refresher training, we also offer 3 versions of an OSHA 8 Hour Hazardous Materials Incident Commander Level V Responder Refresher course. (COMING SOON!)

Cons

  • Smartphone screens can be too small to see
  • Mobile browsers react differently than computer browsers

Your Mobile Browser

While HTML5 makes taking this course on mobile devices possible, not all mobile browsers are optimized for HTML5, meaning you may not have complete functionality. If you have difficulty taking this course using the browser on your mobile device, you may need to use a different browser.

Test the functionality of your browser using HTML5 and compare it to the performance of other browsers. If you find other browsers are more compatible than your own, you may want to make the switch.
